A 3D model of An, a character from my webcomic, My Lonely Soldier. Created in Autodesk Maya. Background is Belfast Sunset - Pure Sky by Dimitrios Savva, Greg Zaal, and Jarod Guest.
This is the first character model I made where I went all the way from the modeling stage to rigging and animation (albeit, very subtle animation) to the final render. During this piece, my primary goal was to translate my 2D artistic style into a 3D medium, focusing on stylized proportions, posing and body language, and a strong color scheme. I'm really proud of the outcome, and this process has definitely taught me a lot about the kind of work that goes into making a finished 3D art piece.
If I was to redo this model, I would want to optimize the topology a bit more, especially for the clothing and hair, so that the faces and vertices flowed a bit nicer. I'd also want to explore more textural styles; right now, the model feels a bit like a plastic doll -- which is a visual style I enjoy -- but I'm interested in exploring painterly styles and toon shaders.
